The Feminine Divine

SATURDAY, 03/08/2025 @ 4:00PM

Definitely some of the most beautiful music ever written anywhere and at any time in history, this program features the work of four visionary women composers of the Baroque Era.

A superstar in her day, Barbara Strozzi published eight volumes of original secular music without support from the church or the nobility.

The CORE ensemble performs her poetic vocal music alongside vocal and instrumental works by Elisabeth Jacquet de la Guerre, Francesca Caccini, and Isabella Leonarda, whose Sonata Duodecima is a work full of surprises and rich harmonic depth.

This program travels through love and despair, joyful spirited dance and gritty instrumental virtuosity. This is an extremely rare opportunity to hear four of the most compelling female musical voices of European history—in one concert evening, sharing in a celebration of International Women’s Day.

Soprano Sarah Moyer and mezzo-soprano Claire McCahan are joined by Minneapolis-based harpsichordist Tami Morse, cellist Joseph Howe, and Music Director/violinist Zachary Carrettin. This illuminating program includes CORE artists revealing little-known historical facts about women composers and their powerful influence in the Baroque Era.
