billy alvis, composition & manuscripts RESEARCH fellow 2024-25

Billy Alvis holds a Bachelor of Music degree and Teaching Certificate from Sam Houston State University, where he studied violin, piano, voice, theory, and composition. Billy contributed substantially to the School of Music's project, The Rescue: The Surviving Musical Works of Gustavo Navarre, producing/editing scores and orchestral parts from the composer’s resurrected first sinfonia, in manuscript. As a member of the SHSU Symphony Orchestra, Billy performed/collaborated in the first recording of the work, conducted by SHSU Prof. Zachary Carrettin.

Billy was Magnolia West High School’s first student to get the TSSEC Outstanding Performer title at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Competition in 2010 for Music Theory and acquired a position in the Texas Region 6 Choir during each of his four years in high school.

Billy Alvis is in his 10th year as a public school music educator and has, on occasion, worked with the Boulder Bach Festival to arrange music and produce scores for their COmpass Resonance Ensemble.

 

Billy is a 2024/25 Boulder Bach Festival Fellowship Artist and in this capacity will create modern editions of several ancient musical works in manuscript.
